This website is supported by all South Island Lines companies and is intended to make it easier for you to apply for Over Dimension Consents, especially when the consent applies across Line company boundaries.

Transporting high loads can pose a risk when routes are not inspected properly.

Overhead lines clearance from the road surface may have changed overtime as a result of road resurfacing, vehicle coming in contact with the poles or soil disturbances caused by nature.

A High Load consent is required when transporting loads with an overall height of 4.8 meters and higher to secure electricity supply and ensure safety to the general public. Approval will be given based on the height and application time frames stated below:

4.3 – 5.0
(Up to 2 working days)
  • You will need to obtain written permission from us and any other owners of overhead obstructions that the load or vehicle can’t clear safely.
5.0 – 5.3
(Up to 3 working days)
  • You will need to obtain written permission from us and any other owners of overhead obstructions that the load or vehicle can’t clear safely.
  • You will also need to obtain permission from relevant rail service operations if the vehicle is going to travel over a railway crossing that doesn’t cross a state highway, and the vehicle exceeds the height shown on an electrified railway safe height sign.
5.3 – 5.9
(Up to 5 working days)
  • Along with the above conditions you will also need a consent from the Over-dimension Permit Issuing Agency (OPIA). To contact the OPIA freephone them on 0800 OVERSIZE (683 774).
5.9 -6.5
(Up to 10 working days)
  • Along with the above conditions you will also need a consent from the Over-dimension Permit Issuing Agency (OPIA). To contact the OPIA freephone them on 0800 OVERSIZE (683 774).
Over 6.5
(Up to 10 working days)
  • Along with the above conditions you will also need written approval from the Transport Agency.

Application

Once an application is made and submitted, each affected Lines company will be emailed with the particulars of your application.  You still need a consent for every Lines company the over dimension load will travel though.
 
It is your responsibility to ensure you receive a consent from all affected lines companies, before proceeding.
